Chris began her career as a primary teacher and expressive arts co-ordinator in Liverpool. She was a senior lecturer in music education on the BA(Hons) Primary Education at the Institute of Education, Manchester Metropolitan University for 25 years. Coaxed out of early retirement Chris has recently taught part-time at Hope University, Liverpool where she also acted as research facilitator for the Cultural Education Research Initiative in collaboration with Curious Minds. Chris acted as education consultant for a number of BBC schools music broadcasts and was co-author of Teaching Music in Primary Schools for Learning Matters. Throughout her career Chris has been an advocate of the Orff approach with its emphasis on active music making through rhythm and language and a creative problem-solving approach to improvisation and composition which draws on a wealth of cultures and musical traditions.
