Kate Buchanan

Deputy Chair, Publications and Courses

I am a longstanding supporter and specialist practitioner of the Orff approach.
Recently I directed the London-based CPD Programme: ‘Teaching Music with the Orff Approach’ and led workshops for ‘The Sound of the Garden’ summer course for the Croatian Carl Orff Association.
I was formerly Head of Creative & Professional Practice at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester where I managed a wide-ranging programme of vocational and specialist training. Before that I worked at Trinity Laban in London leading specialist outreach projects and related training. My consultancy work has included projects for Channel 4 Learning, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the National Foundation for Youth Music. I am co-author with Stephen Chadwick of Music Connections: Practical Music for all Primary Teachers (Cramer Music) and contributed to Three Rapping Rats (A & C Black) which won the TES best primary resource for music. Other publications include Primary Curriculum: Teaching the Foundation Subjects (ed. Spink, E. & R. Boys) published by Continuum.
