David Wheway (Canterbury Christ Church University, Orff Society UK)
David Wheway will be sharing music programs and apps that can enhance common musical practices for children in and out of the classroom (exploring and changing sounds, combining sound files for composition, layering sounds for rhythmic compositions). The chosen programs and apps are simple to use (where little technical expertise is required). The workshop will consider technology for sound design which can be used instead of and/or alongside musical activities such as story making, journeys/trails etc., and rhythm layer apps for developing beat and rhythm compositions and performance. The workshop should appeal to all, including the technologically terrified.
Participants will learn about programs and apps for PC, Mac, Apple and Android devices.
David Wheway has worked as a class teacher in primary schools leading on a range of curriculum areas as well as music. As a music leader, he developed inclusive ideas for supporting colleagues to teach music to their classes, which led to him joining the music advisory team for Leicestershire in 1989 (alongside Sarah Hennessy).
David continued to develop ideas and materials to support the generalist teacher of music, which led to invitations both nationally and internationally, including at the Orff Institute, Salzburg. Since 2008 he has worked at Canterbury Christ Church University as a senior lecturer in education.
