Posted on: 04/03/2026

Please join the International Orff-Schulwerk Forum Salzburg (IOSFS) Resonances Committee on 22 March 2026 at 3:00pm CET for a special online presentation exploring the legacy of Margaret Murray.

Margaret Murray (1921–2015), inspired by the work of Carl Orff in the 1950s, played a pivotal role in shaping Orff Schulwerk in the English-speaking world. Working alongside Gunild Keetman and Orff, she helped create the Music for Children volumes in English, making this groundbreaking pedagogical approach accessible to teachers across the UK and beyond.

Over more than six decades, Margaret Murray:

Trained generations of teachers

Promoted Orff pedagogy throughout the UK and internationally

Collaborated with leading figures in arts education

Translated key Orff works

Was honoured by the Orff Foundation in 2011 for her outstanding contribution

This presentation will explore the progress and impact of her work through musical examples and personal reflections.

Presented by Kate Buchanan and the IOSFS Resonances Committee.
